Romantik in Blau – ein Liederzyklus zwischen den Welten

background and genesis

”…and my soul spread her wings out wide, flew across the silent land, as though flying home.”

romantic-mystical primal experience in the words of the great German poet and thinker Joseph von Eichendorff
comes to life in 1840 in one of the most significant songs of romanticism: Robert Schumann’s „Mondnacht“

one hundred and forty years later: the mystical experience of unity of the still-young singer Peter in the midst of the lush orchard in the foothills of the Black Forest
finding himself in this song
driving force of a singer’s life

another forty years later: unexpectedly resonating in the homeland-inspired piano playing of the matured composer Matthias
creative spark ignited in the brotherly dialogue
a flood of songs flowing out for the soul-mate
being inwardly moved flows into poetic fragments of notes
being surrounded and permeated for many years by orchestral symphonic sounds, classical music, jazz and improvisation
now condensed in musical miniatures – songs for voice and piano
as in the times of Schubert, Schumann and Chopin
and at the same time the very own expression of a modern musician’s life
songs in ”blue”
music of worlds

romantic striving and experience in the shimmering garb of modern sounds
mysteriously, the Blue Flower shimmers
symbol of the incomprehensible
that first and last reality
mostly unrecognised and yet closer than we are to ourselves
home everywhere, nowhere, and respectively here
appearing in the light blueness of the sky
emerging from the velvet-black night-blue of the primordial ground
itself mirroring in the dance of countless figures
one taste

sharing the journey on earth as in spirit
now also, thanks to technical achievement, overcoming half the globe,
again in direct musical dialogue
as before in the old homeland: both border crossers between classical, pop and jazz

Matthias, the composer, creative custom tailor, harmonic foundation on bass, on piano,
born in the constellation of Taurus.
Peter, the singer, breath-giving interpreter, the voice on stage, born in the constellation Leo

mutually inspiring musical partnership, attuned to each other, even dependent – in the best sense of the word.
